But the supplier’s written authorisation is required to cross the border with a rental car. In any case, confirm whether you need a Green Card at the supplier desk before you leave.

⚠️ Important: Check the back of the Green Card for “BiH” before you leave the supplier counter. Sometimes these cards exclude it even when the supplier allows cross-border travel to Bosnia.

If your licence is printed in the Latin alphabet, you can usually drive from Croatia to Bosnia without an International Driving Permit (IDP). But you will need an IDP if your licence uses a non-Latin script, such as Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, or Japanese.

No. Bosnia does not use a sticker-based vignette system similar to Slovenia or Austria. You can pay tolls in cash or by card at booths on motorway sections only. Most routes, including the road from Croatia to Mostar, have no toll at all.

Availability for luxury or premium rental cars is usually limited. Suppliers often restrict these vehicles to travel within Croatia only because of the higher insurance excess involved in taking a high-value car across the border.
