    Would Definitely Book Again

    14 July 2026

This was probably one of the easiest rentals we’ve had during our Europe trip. We booked the car a few weeks before arriving in Croatia and the confirmation email included all the information we needed. Pickup was smooth, the car was clean and even better than I expected from the photos. We drove from Dubrovnik all the way to Zadar without any issues. Fuel economy was good and the air conditioning worked really well, which was important because it was very hot. I’d happily use Mack again next time we visit Croatia.

    Helpful Staff and Honest Service

One thing I really liked was that everything was explained properly before we left. They showed us the existing marks on the car and answered our questions about toll roads and fuel stations. Sometimes rental companies make things feel stressful but this didn’t. We drove around Istria for several days and the car was comfortable the whole time. There were no unexpected charges after returning it which is always nice.

Drove over 900 km during our trip and the car never missed a beat. Comfortable, clean and no problems at all. Can’t really ask for more.

    Better Than I Expected

    15 April 2026

I hadn’t heard much about Mack before booking so I was a little unsure. After reading a few reviews I decided to give them a try. Honestly I don’t regret it. Pickup in Split was easy, the paperwork didn’t take forever and the staff were friendly without trying to sell loads of extras. The car was in really good condition and we used it every day for over a week. Returning it in Dubrovnik was just as straightforward.

    Nice Small Car

Booked a compact car for driving around Split and Trogir. Easy to park, good on fuel and exactly what we needed. Would rent here again.

    Family Holiday Without Any Problems

    3 March 2026

There were five of us travelling with lots of luggage so we booked a larger SUV. It had enough room for everyone and was comfortable even on the longer drives. The staff helped us install the child seat because we weren’t doing it right at first, which was appreciated. One small thing, the office was a bit busy when we arrived but once our turn came everything moved pretty fast. Overall a very good experience.

Great Choice for a Croatia Road Trip

    20 February 2026
    Verified

We rented a car from Mack for 9 days and travelled from Zagreb down to Split with a few stops along the way. Booking online was simple enough and I liked that the final price matched what we paid at pickup. The car wasn’t the newest model but it was clean and reliable which mattered more to us. We had no issues driving through the national parks or along the coast. Drop off was quick and we were at the airport much earlier than expected.

  • P

    Good Prices

Compared a few companies before booking and Mack had one of the better prices. The car wasn’t brand new but it was clean and drove perfectly for our holiday.

Collected our car from Dubrovnik Airport and everything was ready when we arrived. No waiting around and the whole thing took maybe 10 minutes. Really happy with the service.

🔍

When should I choose Mack over an international brand?

Choose Mack Car Rental if your itinerary requires more price and route flexibility rather than brand-standard consistency. Mack is generally a stronger choice if:

  • You wish to drive rental car across borders: The brand supports one-way and cross-border trips into Montenegro, Bosnia, and even Albania, which many international suppliers restrict.
  • You prefer a local, personal service: Being an independent Croatian operator, the brand’s local expertise about the region is preferred over a standardised international counter experience.
  • You’re a budget-conscious traveller: Mack’s car rental prices are typically more competitive than the big global names.

📅

Can I cancel my Mack car rental booking free of charge?

In most cases, a 100% refund of the pre-payment will be made to the customer if the Mack car rental booking has been cancelled 48 hours before the pick-up. In cases where the booking has been cancelled when less than 48 hours are left for pick-up, a penalty will apply. Check the terms and conditions for more information.

The deposit is a security pre-authorisation held on your card at pick-up. For M.A.C.K, the car rental deposit ranges from approximately €400 to €3,500 depending on your car group and insurance type. Note that taking a full insurance package can help in reducing the deposit amount.

📄

What documentation do I need to drive a Mack rental car across borders?

The documentation requirements differ depending on which border you’re crossing, but as a general rule passport, driving licence, rental contract, cross-border permit letter, and Green Card insurance (required for Albania) are required. Below is the complete breakdown:

Border document checklist:

DocumentDetails
Passport / National IDPassport for non-EU citizens; EU national ID accepted for Croatia↔Montenegro crossings
Driving licenceEU/UK/US/AU licences accepted; no IDP needed if the licence uses Roman script
Rental agreementMust list the permitted countries for your trip
Green Card / IMICRequired depending on which countries you’re crossing into
Vehicle registrationAlready provided in the car
Warning triangle & vestAlready provided in the car

Good to know:

  • Green Card (Zelena karta): International insurance certificate extending your rental’s cover beyond Croatia. From €38, arranged at pickup (~10 min). One card covers all six permitted countries. Inform Mack of your full itinerary so it’s listed correctly, as border guards check routinely.
  • IMIC: Additional certificate required for Albania, alongside the Green Card. Arranged at pickup.
  • Split – Dubrovnik only: No Green Card needed — the Pelješac Bridge (2022) bypasses Bosnia entirely.

🎫

Who is responsible for traffic fines and tickets during the rental?

The renter is responsible for all traffic violations, parking fines, and toll charges incurred during the rental period. This applies from the moment the car is handed to the driver until the return.

🚘

Can a friend or family member drive the rental car?

Only drivers listed on the rental contract are authorised to drive the rental car booked with Mack Croatia. An additional driver can be added for a daily fee and must be done before getting behind the wheel. Any unlisted person driving the vehicle immediately voids all insurance coverage and puts you in breach of contract.

What to do if I happen to put the wrong fuel in the car rental?

Stop the engine immediately and do not start it again. Contact us straight away. Wrong fuel is not covered by any insurance package and all repair costs are the driver’s responsibility.

❄️

Are winter tyres provided with car rental deals by Mack?

In most cases, MACK vehicles are equipped with winter equipment including winter tyres on certain roads between 15 November and 15 April (which is mandatory during this period). If you are travelling in winter, you can also confirm directly with the supplier that the vehicle is properly equipped for your specific route.

➡️

Does Mack allow one-way rentals in Croatia?

Yes, Mack Car Rental supports one-way rentals both within Croatia and across borders into neighbouring countries (such as Slovenia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Albania). An additional one-way fee applies for such routes. Also, for international one-way car rentals, an additional cross-border fee applies. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Not every vehicle category is available for one-way rentals, especially premium, luxury, and larger vehicles.
  • One-way rentals are only available between eligible M.A.C.K branches. Check that your desired return location is supported.
  • Certain one-way routes may have minimum rental periods or limited availability during peak travel seasons.
  • For rentals between same-city branches, the one-way fee is sometimes waived off.

🛂

Does M.A.C.K Car Rental allow cross-border travel to Montenegro or Bosnia?

Yes, Mack permits the rented vehicle to be taken across international borders into neighbouring countries with prior authorisation. A cross-border fee is applicable for such routes, which is usually not included in the basic rate and is payable upon pick-up per the current price list. Here’s the complete breakdown:

Cross-Border PolicyDetails
Cross-border travel allowed?✅ Yes — written permission must be obtained from Mack
Countries permittedAll EU member states, plus Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hungary, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia

🏝️

Can I take a Mack rental car to Croatian islands?

Yes. Mack allows rental vehicles on ferries, with a one-time ferry fee of €40.00. Note that not all island destinations actually require a ferry, Krk, Pag, and Murter are connected to the mainland by bridge, so no ferry fee applies there. The €40 fee only comes into play for true ferry-access islands like Hvar, Korčula, and Brač (Supetar).
