Car Rental Tips
Before you pick up the car
Best Time to Book
Pro tip
Avoid July and August peak pricing. January, March, November and December offer the lowest daily rates in Croatia.
Fuel & Mileage Policy
Watch out
Always choose a “full to full” fuel policy with unlimited mileage — saves money on return and eliminates mileage concerns.
Benefit from Optional Add-ons
Must do
Enhance your trip with child seats, GPS, winter tyres, snow chains, WiFi or an additional driver at affordable extra cost.
Book in Advance
Required
Reserving early secures below-average rates and gives you access to a wider selection of vehicle categories.
Select the Right Car Category
Mostly city driving? An economy or compact car keeps fuel costs low and suits tighter budgets and narrow Croatian roads.
Comparison is Key
Use our platform to compare prices, ratings, reviews and inclusions across leading suppliers to find the best fit for your budget.
Driving tips
On the road from ACI Marina Slano
Watch for Speed Cameras South of Slano
Camera enforced
The D8 coastal road passes through villages including Trsteno, Orašac, and Zaton where the speed limit drops to 50 km/h. Adjust your speed accordingly before approaching.
Use the Pelješac Bridge for Peninsula Day Trips
Pro tip
If heading to Ston, Orebić, or Korčula, the Pelješac Bridge route avoids international border crossings through Neum, making day trips much faster and cost-effective.
Fill up before longer drives
Watch out
While fuel stations are available in and around Slano for trips towards the Pelješac Peninsula or more rural parts of Southern Dalmatia, refuelling before leaving is advisable.
Check Montenegro Permission Before Pickup
Cross-border
Montenegro is fairly close to Slano, and while most Croatian rental companies permit cross border travel, advance written authorisation is still required.
The D8 near this stretch is bura-prone
The coastal road section between Slano and Dubrovnik may be closed due to bura winds. Check HAK (Croatian Automobile Club) road alerts to avoid encountering them.
Reserve Early During the Sailing Season
Required
As this is a popular pickup point for yacht charter guests, rental car availability can become limited from June to September. Book well in advance for better selection and prices.

Rental car visitor tip: Slano itself needs no parking strategy at all — it’s free and easy. Save the planning for day trips: Ston’s lots are cheap but small, so arrive before midday in summer. For Dubrovnik, Park & Ride Dubec works perfectly since it’s directly on your route in. And on Slano’s narrow lanes, never block a driveway or gate — it’s a small village and locals notice.
ACI Marina Slano · By Car
Best Day Trips from ACI Marina Slano by Rental Car
ACI Marina Slano sits right inside the village bay on the D8 coastal road, 38 km north of Dubrovnik and at the doorstep of the Pelješac Peninsula. Planner Tip: Beach Karmelska in Slano is the easy default, but Prapratno is worth the drive even if you’re not catching the Mljet ferry — the pine-backed bay is one of the most sheltered swimming spots on this stretch of coast. Arrive before 10:00 in July and August.

Would definitely book again
VerifiedReally pleased with the booking from beginning to end. The website was simple to use, prices were competitive and there were no surprise fees when collecting the vehicle. We picked up the car at ACI Marina Slano and returned it at the airport a few days later without any issues. It was probably one of the easiest rental experiences we’ve had in Croatia and I’d definitely use this service again.

Stress free pickup after sailing
VerifiedAfter returning the boat, the last thing we wanted was another transfer or waiting in line at the airport. The supplier met us close to the marina, the paperwork was finished in about 10 minutes and we were on the road shortly after. The whole process felt really easy and well organised. We’d happily rent here again if we come back to Slano.

Perfect for a road trip
VerifiedThis was our first time visiting Croatia and renting from ACI Marina Slano was definitely the right decision. Public transport around the smaller towns isn’t always very frequent, so having our own car gave us the freedom to stop wherever we wanted. We found some beautiful beaches and restaurants we probably wouldn’t have discovered otherwise. Pickup and return both went smoothly.

Excellent
VerifiedWe rented the car after finishing our yacht charter and spent the next five days exploring Southern Dalmatia. We visited Ston, drove across the Pelješac Bridge, stopped at a few wineries and even made it to Dubrovnik for a day. The car was clean, comfortable and had plenty of room for our luggage. Car Rental Croatia
Josip Stjepan – Croatia Travel & Car Rental Specialist
Josip spent a decade coordinating vehicle logistics for Jadrolinija’s ferry network, matching rental cars to sailing schedules for Hvar, Brač, and Korčula. The job gave him insider insights into where exactly rental companies quietly pass costs onto tourists. Drawing from his extensive knowledge of Croatia’s ferry network, coastal routes, and driving conditions, he helps travellers compare rental options, plan efficient itineraries, understand toll roads, avoid unnecessary fees, and prepare for cross-border travel.
