Returning a car

A full-to-full fuel policy is sort of a standard for most suppliers, under which you receive the car with a full tank and are required to return it full. Returning with less than a full tank results in a refuelling charge above market rate, plus a service fee. Fill up at a nearby petrol pump before returning the car, and keep the receipt safe as proof.

ℹ️ Less frequent but still in use options also include same-to-same and prepaid fuel policies. There are no refunds for unused fuel on either of these, so choose them after carefully reviewing your trip’s fuel usage.

Out-of-hours returns are offered by many suppliers upon prior arrangement and subject to applicable charges. Since Rijeka Train Station does not have a dedicated car hire area within the terminal building itself, you will need to return the car to supplier branches and vehicle lots within a few minutes’ walk.

✅ Opening hours may vary across suppliers, so you are to park and lock the rental car in the designated supplier lot, and return the keys in the secure key box or kiosk. The vehicle returned after office hours is often inspected on the next business day.

⚠️ Photograph or video the car thoroughly at the drop-off point and timestamp the images. This protects you against any later disagreements.

Rijeka is a major port city with good fuel coverage throughout the urban area. With plenty of options available, you can refill your car hire from INA, OMV fuel stations near the train station and harbour-front.

ℹ️ If coming back from a motorway trip on the A6 or via the Učka Tunnel, filling up at an INA motorway service area before your exit is a better option than finding a fuel station in the city centre.
