How much is the cross-border fee for taking a car hire to Bosnia & Herzegovina?
The cross-border fee is charged per rental and depends on the supplier and chosen car category. The exact amount also varies by booking duration and the drop-off location. Taking a rental car from Croatia to a non-EU country like Bosnia can incur a relatively higher cross-border fee than to an EU country.
| Cost item | Typical amount |
| Cross-border authorisation fee | €30–70 per rental |
| One-way drop-off fee (if applicable) | €80–150+ per rental |
ℹ️ The above figures are based on market estimates from supplier data in Croatia. Read the supplier terms carefully to know the exact cross-border fee for your preferred deal.

Are there any additional fees for taking a Croatian car rental into Bosnia?
Besides a cross-border fee, a couple of other charges may apply to your booking depending on the situation. The supplier charges these alongside the cross-border authorisation fee, not instead of it.
| Fee | When it applies |
| Young driver surcharge | Usually for drivers under 25 |
| Larger vehicle surcharge | SUV, minivan or premium category |
| Out-of-hours collection/return | Pickup or drop-off outside normal desk hours |
| Additional driver fee | A second driver is added to the agreement |
💡 Tip: You can review the price breakdown on the booking summary page to see applicable fees before confirming the reservation.
🚧
Are tolls included in the rental car?
No. Motorway tolls are paid separately from the rental cost and are the driver’s responsibility unless the supplier explicitly includes an electronic toll device (ENC) in the agreement. Bosnia charges tolls on a few short motorway stretches near the Croatian border by Ljubuški and around Sarajevo.
💡 Tip: The older M-17 road through the Neretva valley toward Mostar is a toll-free alternative to the motorway sections.

Do I need a vignette to drive a rental car in Bosnia & Herzegovina?
No. Bosnia does not use a sticker-based vignette system similar to Slovenia or Austria. You can pay tolls in cash or by card at booths on motorway sections only. Most routes, including the road from Croatia to Mostar, have no toll at all.
