Rental fleets for cross-border travel are subject to availability, even more so during peak summer travel. Additionally, crossing the border into Montenegro isn’t permitted by all suppliers in Croatia. An early booking allows you to secure a preferred vehicle for the required travel dates, as well as enough time for the rental company to arrange any required cross-border documentation.

Dubrovnik is the closest pickup point from the Montenegrin border. Split is where you can find the widest overall selection if you’re arriving in busy May–September, although drive time may be longer. Zagreb also has a reliable fleet of vehicles in different categories, but it’s a long way from the border and worth the pickup if your trip starts there.

Yes. Additional drivers can be added to your car hire booking for an extra daily fee. The extra driver must be listed on the agreement during the pickup. Any accidental damage to the vehicle or third-party claims caused by an unauthorised driver are not covered by any level of insurance once you’re in Montenegro.

Yes. Some suppliers offer one-way rentals from Croatia to popular cross-border locations like Tivat and Podgorica. An additional drop-off fee based on your chosen car type and route is charged on top of the standard rental cost, along with a cross-border fee.
