A security deposit of €1,000 to €3,500 is pre-authorised on the main driver’s credit card at the time of car rental pickup in Opatija, much like the rest of Croatia. The exact amount can vary based on your chosen vehicle type and insurance level.

⚠️ Your credit card should have enough available credit limit to cover both the deposit and any travel expenses. The deposit is usually released within 7–21 days after the car is returned without any damage or traffic fines.

Compact cars can be booked at as low as €21/day in late autumn and early spring. Prices often peak in July and August, especially due to high demand for standard and luxury vehicle categories. A downtown rental pickup can help you save on the charges involved for airport collections.

Most suppliers require a valid credit card in the main driver’s name to hold the security deposit at pickup. A debit card is generally accepted for booking, but may not be accepted as a deposit guarantee or may require a higher deposit and additional insurance. Check with your specific supplier before travel.

ℹ️ If a travel companion holds a credit card, they may be registered as the main driver with you added as an additional driver.

All rental cars in Croatia include mandatory third-party liability insurance. A Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP) are also included in most deals, but these come with an excess. Optional Super CDW or Full Protection policies can be purchased to reduce the excess to zero and extend cover to items (e.g., tyres, glass, underbody) often excluded from standard CDW.

The CDW excess varies by vehicle category:
