How much does it cost to rent a compact car in Croatia?
Compact car prices in Croatia tend to change significantly with each travel season. Daily rental rates are highest in July and August due to maximum demand from tourists.
| Season | Months | Typical price |
| Low season | Jan–Apr & Nov–Dec | €7–12/day |
| Shoulder season | May–Jun & Sep–Oct | €10–18/day |
| Peak season | Jul–Aug | €18–32/day |
⚠️ Airport pickups can cost a bit more than city-centre bookings due to airport concession fees added to the base rate.

How much is the security deposit for a compact car?
In addition to your chosen car and rental duration, the deposit amount is also influenced by your insurance level. It is a temporary hold placed by the supplier on the primary driver’s credit card. The deposit is fully released after the car is returned undamaged and with the agreed-upon fuel level.
| Insurance level | Typical deposit hold |
| Basic insurance (included in rate) | ~€800–1,500 |
| Full / zero-excess insurance added | ~€150–300 |
⚠️ Prepaid and debit card deposits are rarely accepted, and suppliers who allow them require higher deposits and additional insurance.

Is unlimited mileage included with compact rentals?
Although unlimited mileage is a common inclusion with most compact rentals, it is not standard across all suppliers in Croatia. Some deals may also come with a daily mileage cap, where travellers are subject to a per-kilometre fee for driving beyond the permitted limit.

Do I need additional insurance for a compact rental car in Croatia?
Basic insurance is almost always included in the base rental price, but a deductible of around €1,000–1,200 may still apply (the amount you are liable to pay in case of vehicle damage or theft). Travellers often purchase extra insurance to reduce or remove that liability.
| Included by default | Optional add-ons |
| Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) | Excess/deposit reduction cover |
| Theft protection | Tyre & windscreen cover |
| Third-party liability | Personal accident cover |
⚠️ Standards CDW does not cover damage to tyres, glass, roof, underbody, or interior. Upgrading to an appropriate policy can help cover vehicle damage caused by gravel surfaces and low-clearance tracks.
✅ Some credit cards include CDW excess coverage. Check before purchasing an SCDW upgrade – you may already be covered.
