Both Hungary and Croatia are Schengen Area members (meaning you may not necessarily encounter standard passport control checkpoints at the border). But most car rental companies still charge a cross-border fee of about €40 to €90 for this route.

Most standard deals for cross-border travel to Hungary include unlimited mileage, but some may have a per-day or per-rental mileage cap. The exact mileage limit can vary by vehicle category and supplier policies, and driving beyond the permitted distance can incur an extra fee.

⚠️ Important: Always confirm the mileage policy in the rental terms of your preferred deal when booking with us. This is especially true if you are planning a round trip to Hungary and back, which easily adds up to several hundred kilometres a day.

Around €300 to €800 is usually held on the main driver’s credit card for standard rentals. The deposit is temporarily blocked at the time of car collection and is released after the car is returned undamaged and with no fines. A few select suppliers may accept debit card deposits, but with a higher deposit amount and additional insurance.

📌 Note: The deposit is typically released within 7-21 days after the car’s return, but the timeline depends as much on your car issuer as on your supplier.
